Value of professional portraits:

Aside from JC Penney's in the 90s, I never had my picture professionally taken until I was pregnant with my first child in 2019. After I got the photos back, I realized how special it was to have these moments documented, and documented well. Since then, our family has prioritized taking annual family photos with our girls and we’ve never regretted spending the money or the time. The pictures are such precious keepsakes in this stage of our life that’s going by entirely too fast.

How I got started photographing families:

For years I would dust off my "big camera" to take a few pictures of my friends or family members, mainly for special events or Christmas cards. At one point, I started becoming curious about how to use it in more than just auto mode, so I taught myself how to shoot manually. I started doing practice photos on my husband and kids. When they (quickly) got tired of posing for me, I started doing free sessions for families in my community. When my original camera and lens became limiting, I started upgrading my gear. And here we are--this has been a fun little side job for me that fits into my life as a stay at home mom!

I really enjoy the creative aspect of taking and editing pictures, and I love getting to deliver beautiful galleries to my clients. Most of us moms have a lot of pictures of our kids, but not necessarily good pictures with them. And I love that I can give moms (and dads!) photos with their kids that they will treasure for a lifetime. I love that my images will end up on Christmas cards and hanging on walls and in photo albums. That I can document families exactly as they are in their current season and preserve little details they'll want to remember, like how the baby's hair sticks straight up or how their toddler gives the biggest hugs. My photography style:

I love photo sessions in beautiful outdoor locations with natural lighting, preferably around golden hour. I'm not one for themed sessions or an abundance of props. I love capturing timeless photos that can be displayed around your house at any time of the year. I will work to capture a mix of posed shots and candid moments. Of course, we want a few good options of everyone looking and smiling, but we also don't want to miss those in-between moments of your family interacting naturally. We also won't stress about kids being kids! Often times their high energy or silly moments can lead to some of the sweetest photos. I know you'll love having a good variety of images to look back on!
